Protecting Health and Choice and Lowering Healthcare Costs

The government has no place between you and your doctor, and no place in the bedroom. I will fight to codify Roe v. Wade at the federal level.  No politician should decide what you can or cannot do with your own body. Every person deserves the freedom to live, choose, and thrive on their own terms.

We have a healthcare system that is teetering on the brink. The One Big Beautiful Bill that was recently passed will gut funding for healthcare in rural communities, access to affordable healthcare, and prioritize profits over patients. Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen a great resignation of healthcare professionals who were pushed to the extreme. The United States has some of the worst healthcare outcomes for any developed nation in the world, including life-expectancy. Instead of cutting funding for healthcare and leaning into pseudo-science as the current administration proposes, we must ensure that the health of all North Carolinians is prioritized.

No one should ever go bankrupt over a medical emergency, to pay for cancer treatment or basic prescriptions for chronic illness, or because a family member at the twilight of their life requires significant assistance. Families shouldn’t face $15 hospital socks or $8 toothbrushes while struggling with medical bills. I will fight to protect Medicare, expand Medicaid, lower prescription drug prices, and end junk fees in health care that only serve to saddle everyday Americans with mountains of debt. I will protect the Affordable Care Act from being gutted, prioritize patient outcomes over pharma profits, and fight to expand access to affordable coverage so that no family is left behind.

Honoring Veterans with Action

My father was a veteran and was laid to rest with so many other heroes in Rowan County. I pledge to honor his time in service to our county by making sure that our veterans receive more than thanks — they receive results. I will expand access to high-quality health care, especially in rural areas, and support free transportation to VA facilities. If you served our country, your country should serve you in return. When a veteran returns from active duty, re-integration into daily American life can be a challenge, and we must stand up and support the programs that offer wrap-around services to those who have put everything on the line for our freedom and way of life.

Protecting the Social SecuritySafety Net

Many of us have paid into Social Security our whole lives with the expectation that we would see it when we can no longer work. It is an earned benefit - and the current administration thinks it’s a handout. I will protect and strengthen it, and ensure it is never treated like a government slush fund. Every senior deserves dignity and financial security in retirement.

Aside from Social Security, all of our social safety net is at-risk; I will protect: SNAP/TANF benefits, housing assistance, Head Start, Medicaid, and Medicare to name a few, alongside so many other life-changing programs that serve many families in North Carolina.

Securing Our Future Through Education

We are seeing unprecedented attacks on our education system today. I deeply value education as a top priority - the kids are the future. I will stand as a bulwark against the constant attacks on programs like Head Start, which funds childcare services for millions of families, our public K-12 schools, and University systems by those who see an uneducated electorate as an opportunity to secure power. I will set my sights on programs that ensure young adults have access to adequate resources to pursue their dreams, are not leaving secondary education with hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt that will take decades to pay off. I will also work hand in hand with my colleagues in Washington D.C. to make sure that no child enrolled in our public schools should ever go hungry, and that parents can send their children to school - that teachers can go to work every day - and not worry about their safety.

Protecting Personal Data in the Digital Age

Under my watch, your personal data will not be for sale. I will work to stop the misuse of third-party contractors and fight to restore data protection by putting accountability back in the hands of trusted public servants — not unvetted tech vendors, corporations who bury language that signs away the rights to your data in the small print, or foreign hackers who mean to do us harm. We have even seen terrible breaches with our personal data based on how DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) integrated with the Federal Government, potentially providing private corporations with access to the most sensitive data of our citizens.

Strengthening the Working Class and Economic Stability

The actions of the current administration endanger the economic stability of our nation. Excessive tariffs have escalated into trade wars with some of our strongest economic partners, with those effects being felt by consumers more than anyone. Attempts to politicize the Federal Reserve are a recipe for disaster. Tax cuts benefit billionaires at the expense of our once thriving - now disappearing middle class.

Too many North Carolinians are priced out of their homes. I will push to lower housing costs, protect tenants, expand affordable housing construction, support the creation of strong union jobs, and support utility assistance. I will support small businesses by providing a conduit to the Small Business Administration, and work hard to lower the costs of necessities like gas and groceries for North Carolina residents.

Additionally, in this day and age, the Internet is a necessity, not a luxury, and I will fight to expand free high-speed internet access to every household in North Carolina.

Enacting Ethical Immigration Policies

It is shocking and alarming the lengths to which the current administration will go to bring harm to immigrants on U.S. soil. We are in so many ways a nation of immigrants, built on the diversity that brings, and the promise of a better life - of freedom - of security. Now we see masked Federal Agents shoving people into unmarked vans. Federal forces are being dispatched on U.S. soil inappropriately. Innocent people are being racially profiled, denied due process, who are denied access to their families, and are stripped of their dignity. While I do believe that violent criminals should be prosecuted, I believe that people coming to the U.S. seeking a better life, those seeking asylum, and honest hard working immigrants who form the backbone deserve a fair shake, and to be treated with respect and dignity.

In Congress, I will push hard to ensure that is the case, and I will stand up to unethical and cruel immigration policies that do not reflect the American spirit. I will work on building pathways to permanent residency and citizenship for those who want to share in that spirit and become productive, tax paying  members of our society. I will hold officials accountable for Federal overreach, and stay grounded in the oath of office to protect and uphold the Constitution of the United States of America every day - as it applies to citizens and non-citizens on our soil.

Securing Our Children’s Future Through Climate Action and a Just Transition

The effects of climate change are already here — from devastating floods to unbearable heat and escalating tropical storms. I will support clean energy solutions, restore strong EPA protections, and invest in sustainable green infrastructure such as solar and wind energy. Our children’s future must come before fossil fuel profits. I will protect our National Parks and wildlife areas from those who would seek to destroy our beautiful landscapes to extract resources from the ground.

As we transition from fossil fuels to more renewable energy sources, I will work hard to ensure that there is a just transition - prioritizing those who work in industries that are being phased out for technical education and job training for equivalent jobs in emerging energy industries. As we transition forward to a more sustainable future, we cannot leave those behind who have powered our lives.
